Demetrius Mauney-McDaniel: Beyond the Script
Tired of the script? Let’s write a new one.
I’m Demetrius, and I cut straight to the truth: Your healing journey isn’t a fix-it session—it’s a partnership. I trade judgment for honest, safe collaboration.
As a Master’s Level Counseling Intern and Qualified Professional (QP), my entire practice is built on two pillars: Person-Centered Therapy and a deeply Trauma-Informed lens. That means we create a space where you can breathe, feel safe, and get real. Plus, cultural competence isn’t a footnote—it’s the foundation of how we connect.
Three Years in the Trenches
My experience isn’t just theory. I’ve been in the trenches for three years, working in high-intensity Level 3 and 4 child facilities and tackling real-world challenges with families and adults on Intensive Support Teams. This background gives me the grounded, life-tested perspective needed for complex mental health challenges.
This work has ignited two core passions that drive my practice:
- Guiding the Next Generation: Helping youth navigate massive life transitions and find their footing after trauma, giving them the tools to forge their own unique path.
- Empowering Adult Men: Supporting men as they bravely drop the mask, claim their truth, access their vulnerability, and step fully into their most authentic lives.
I am currently completing my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health at East Carolina University, providing services under the experienced supervision of Arlene Govan, LCMHCA, LCASA. I’m also a two-year Student Member of the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA), reflecting my deep commitment to prevention and recovery.
Ready to partner up? Let’s start the work toward profound growth and self-discovery.

Makensie Mauney-McDaniel, MS, LMHCA, NCC
Hello! Let’s Get to Work (and Have a Little Fun)!
Hi there! I’m Makensie Mauney-McDaniel, MS, LMHCA, NCC, and I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s be honest: life is a wild, complex ride, and it takes serious courage—the go-getter kind—to reach out for support. I believe that true healing begins when you feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued in your complete, authentic context.
As a dedicated professional, a loving wife, and a busy mom to two boys, I know firsthand how challenging it is to navigate tough transitions and complex family dynamics. I bring that real-world experience, along with a warm, affirming approach, into every session.
My Approach: Culture, Compassion, and Change
Are you feeling weighed down by anxiety? Struggling with depression? Grappling with identity issues, low self-confidence, or difficulty with emotional regulation? That’s exactly where I specialize! I create a humanizing, culturally competent space for adolescents, teens, adults, and families to move through these challenges.
I am a fierce advocate for my clients, and my practice is built on a foundation of genuine understanding. This means we don’t just focus on your daily symptoms—we look at the whole picture. We’ll explore how factors like intergenerational experiences or systemic pressures impact your mental well-being, because your struggles rarely exist in a vacuum. I am here to help you gain clarity and make lasting, meaningful change.
I’m particularly passionate about:
- Empowering women and those navigating complex identity struggles to reclaim their power and build unshakeable self-worth.
- Welcoming men who are ready to explore their emotional landscape, address the pressures of toxic masculinity, and find a healthier path toward vulnerability and connection.
- I am also with passion a member of the Association for the Prevention and Treatment of Sexual Abuse, dedicated to trauma-informed care and recovery.
