Books are meant to be reread, enjoyed, and even savored. But my family and I would also like these books to not only be pulled off shelves, but the stories pulled from the pages.
What do I mean?
I mean, let’s take the stories we read about our community- my latest book, One Road Leads to Another: The Heartfelt Drive, for example- and actually live the book.
Visit the historical places.
Talk to the locals.
Recreate some of the lessons.
With that in mind, we’ve created Teacher Resources to use in classrooms or at home. Enjoy!
One Road Leads to Another: The Heartfelt Drive by Melissa McDaniel
The Classroom Discussion Guide for One Road Leads to Another provides educators with a thoughtful, engaging framework to help students explore family, history, identity, and community connection.
At its core, the guide uses the story of four generations—The Seer, The Driver, The Note-Taker, and The Little Listener—to spark meaningful conversations about how personal and community histories shape who we are.
🧠 Discussion-Based Learning
The guide includes structured discussion questions across key themes:
- Family & Generations: Understanding the importance of storytelling across generations
- Community & History: Exploring local landmarks, cultural roots, and historical change
- Identity & Worth: Helping students reflect on self-worth and belonging
- Diversity & Heritage: Recognizing the contributions of different cultural groups
- Resilience & Hope: Learning from challenges and historical hardships
These questions encourage students to think critically, share personal experiences, and connect the story to their own lives.
